The second night was worse than the first

It is extremely common for things to get worse before they get better. How soon you will start seeing improvements depends on your child, your child’s developmental stage, and the approach you choose. Definitely try for at least 3 nights before you decide whether you need to change tack.

Here’s an outline of the sort of timeframes you might expect before seeing improvement (if your child is slow to adapt to changes, you may need longer):

  • Breaking a habit – about 2 weeks of daily repetition of the new behaviour
  • Resistance to change – 2-3 days of strong resistance
  • Changes to the body clock – gradual change over weeks

If you think you should be seeing change by now, but you’re not, please post in the Facebook Group.
